Progress through the Alien ship had been slow but steady, with our troops executing their orders flawlessly. Not only had they slain a half dozen of the ship's crew, but they'd done so without anyone so much as taking a scratch!

It is perhaps because of their great success that they, and we, became overconfident. I issued risky orders, banking on their outstanding performance up to now, and they executed them flamboyantly, the rush of battle clouding their judgement... and their aim.

Ultimately, the fault lies with me though, as their commander I alone shoulder the blame for the poor decisions made, and later, when the mission is over and I have time to reflect on what went wrong, I will share in the suffering of every soldier wounded because of our overconfident zeal.

So far, only Brandi Bear has suffered any serious wounds, and I hope that they are the only ones, but I get the feeling there will be difficult decisions ahead of us before this mission is done.
