XCOM: Enemy Within Episode 42 - Transcendance
4Hello! This is Adventures Infinity (Tom), bringing you a lets play of XCOM: Enemy Within on PC! Time for the final confrontation, to decide the fate of humanity!
XCOM: Enemy Within is a turn based strategy game based on the classic XCOM series back in the early PC days. Enemy Within is the expansion to the original, Enemy Unknown, and requires it to play. Operation Slingshot and the Elite Soldier Pack downloadable content are also available and will be shown in this run. I will be playing the game on Windows but it is also available for console, iOS, Android, and Linux systems.
In XCOM: Enemy Within/Unknown you take the role of Commander for the XCOM project. XCOM is Earth's first and last line of defense against extra-terrestrial invasion. It is your job to make sure Earth doesn't fall into Alien hands. At your disposal is the "Ant-Farm" base that you can build out to your liking as well as recruiting soldiers for the project. You will also need to research the alien's technology and arms to progress mankind's own abilities, eventually learning the secrets to laser weaponry, unmanned drones, genetic manipulation, psionics, and even cybernetic augmentation of your soldiers.
But the alien threat won't be idle, they will actively send missions out to take key countries, and if too many backing nations withdraw from the XCOM project then it is game over for the human race (And on to XCOM 2 coincidentally). It is a difficult game where one flanking maneuver or a well placed explosive could have a domino effect that either guarantees success or condemns the project to failure. Ironman mode raises the stakes even higher by maintaining one persistent auto-save that forces you to live with the consequences of your choices, and doesn't allow you to merely reload a save if something goes wrong.
I will be doing Classic Ironman, and will be including subscribers, friends/family and commenters as my soldier force against the extra-terrestrial threat.
