XCOM: Enemy Within - Episode 80 (Fading King)
935th of September, 2015:
Having reached what we can only assume is the command centre of the alien base, our troops proceeded with extreme caution, and well they had done, as the aliens maintained a reasonable guard in this final part of the complex.
Though, through luck, or good planning, our troops were able to lure the guards out slowly, almost one at a time, allowing the whole squad to focus their fire on each one in turn until only a single enemy remained.
On the surface, it appeared to be a sectoid, and yet there was something different about it. It stood alone, and with confidence, and it became clear the other aliens had been protecting it. This would be the alien commander.
As much as I would have liked to take this alien back alive, as much as I know how much Dr Vahlen would love to 'interrogate' it, I made up my mind that if it were a question between killing it or endangering our troops, then it should be put down with extreme conviction. And that is exactly what Evelynn did.
Following the return of our troops, the base erupted in celebrations, and while I don't begrudge everyone their feeling of victory, it seems at least Dr Vahlen shares my concern that this one victory is far, far from the end of the war.
