Recap: As the Yggdrasil transports Billy toward the Ethos ship, the party learns more about his history. His father, Jesiah, had disappeared around 8 years ago. 4 years later, his mother, Racquel, was killed by reapers. Bishop Stone appeared and eliminated the reapers, taking Billy in and setting him on his course to join the Ethos and become and Etone. Jessie reappeared later, looking and acting like a different person than Billy remembers, their relationship never recovering.

Boarding the Ethos ship, as suspected, they find that it's been overtaken by reapers and set to work exterminating them. A giant reaper appears from the sea, and Billy calls his gear Renmazuo in order to fight it. After the ship is clear, the Yggdrasil heads to the Ethos headquarters to drop Billy off.

When they arrive, they find that the headquarters has been beset by mysterious assassins, and almost all of the members of the Ethos have been killed on the spot. While looking for survivors, they find themselves in the central Ethos data bank, a place Billy had never had authorization to visit before. Elly recognizes the technology inside as Solarian, and the records contain many references to Solaris, indicating that the Ethos as an organization is actually front for Solaris. Digging deeper, they find evidence that the Ethos was attempting to break away from Solaris and take over the world on their own, using the technology of the Zeboim civilization currently being dug up by the Thames.

Billy's old friend Verlaine shows up, seemingly on the assassins' side, as well as Jesiah, who takes out Verlaine's accomplice. Verlaine claims that he's acting on Bishop Stone's orders, and spills a lot of secrets about Ethos's dark history. Bishop Stone himself shows up and shoots Verlaine, explaining that he's the inquisitor sent to the earth from Solaris. He was the one who established the Etone, and according to Jesiah, used to go by the name Stein. The bishop leaves to attend to business elsewhere, and the party fights off the assassins he leaves behind to deal with them.

Jessie runs ahead tries to catch up with the bishop, but he's already leaving in a large gear, apparently heading out to attack the Thames. The rest of the party returns to the Yggdrasil to try to catch up and warn the captain, and they spot a large round object flying overhead that bombards the fleet around the Thames from above. The captain makes plans to retreat while firing back, and the Yggdrasil crew makes plans to support them however they can.
