Hello everyone, and welcome to chapter 14 of Yakuza 0!

In the last chapter, we joined Kiryu and Oda in Sotenbori, 8 hours before Majima and Sagawa made their move on the Camellia Grove. Kiryu was to get to a video store run by one of Oda and Tachibana's old gang members. There, he would wait for a call from Sera, who currently cared for Makoto. Kiryu was led into a back room, and the owner told him about their past in the gang. Oda had once been the leader, but Tachibana had overpowered them, impressing Oda so much he made him the new leader. Then Oda arrived to take over phone duty while Kiryu could go grab a bite. Soon, he got a pager message from Oda to get back to the shop. Oda had recieved the call and they were to pick up Makoto from Benten Inn in the Camellia Grove.

Kiryu met with Sera and Makoto while Oda waited by the car. She had just learned about the piece of land everyone was hunting her for. They had little time to talk so they went out again. Oda asked them to hurry to get in the car, but Makoto hesitated. There was something familiar with Oda's voice. She didn't answer when Oda tried to introduce himself.

It didn't take long for them to get found though, as several cars led by Shibusawa ambushed them. Shibusawa shot their driver and left to let his men take care of the rest. Kiryu had to shoot the pursuers as Oda took the driver's place. They managed to get away and Oda left the highway. They got to a construction site where they could lay low for a bit.

Oda left Kiryu and Makoto to check the place. Makoto tried to tell Kiryu that she knew Oda, but he interrupted them with a gun drawn. He didn't want Makoto to meet Tachibana and would have to kill them both. But Makoto surprised him with a hidden blade in her cane. Kiryu was fast to disarm him after that. Makoto told Oda to show his arm. He did, and there was a tattoo of a bat. It was Oda who had abducted Makoto and sold her, the reason for the hell she had been through, making her blind. The bat tattoo was the mark of Oda's old gang, that's why Tachibana had one too. Makoto was only one of several girls Oda had treated in this way. Later, he and Tachibana saw a program about war orphans on TV. Makoto appeared on screen, and Tachibana exclaimed "Xiao Qiao?". The girl Oda had kidnapped and sold was Tachibana's sister. Oda hoped to eliminate her so that Tachibana never would know what happened back then.

Just then, they heard Shibusawa's men appearing outside. Makoto wanted Oda to join them getting away, but Oda refused. He chose to stay behind to hold them back, so he could make some amends to the horrors from the past. Kiryu and Makoto had to go through Shibusawa's thugs, but they managed to get away. Oda had a talk with Shibusawa. He was disappointed that Oda had failed in his task to get Makoto, and then shot him.

Kiryu and Makoto found a honeymoon suite to hide in for the night. She talked about Tachibana, their youth as war orphans, and about this whole mess that the Empty Lot had brought. Kiryu comforted her, and promised to take her to her brother, and help put an end to all this misery...

And with that, we join them as they reach Kamurocho...
