Square Enix Yosuke Matsuda recently said in an interview that Japanese developers shouldn't try to imitate Western developers. He's right, they should make their own games the way they want.
You can argue that they should adapt Quality of Life improvements in their games but they need to be the games that they make themselves, the way they want to make them.
