You Did It Hopping: A Song for Rapid T. Rabbit
As most of you know, a very dear friend to many by the name of Richard Concepcion, AKA Rapid T. Rabbit, has recently passed away as he was coming back home from a trip to Oregon. He was a tremendous friend to any who ever met him, always filled with joy and happiness, and always eager to meet and socialize with friends, and he never failed to be a great tour guide and host to anyone who visited him in New York City, where he lived and ran his 34-year-old public access television show, Rapid T. Rabbit and Friends. We from Oh! Pawpets! Show were fortunate to have appeared on his show a few times, and he appeared on our show once as well.
In 2014, I wrote this parody song in honor of Rapid T. Rabbit and Friends' 30th anniversary of his broadcast, and I was able to debut the song on his show. This parody appears on my latest album, "Voices in my Head", which I was getting ready to send a copy of the album to Richard because his song appeared on the album, but he passed away before I was able to make the first complete print run of albums. After the news hit about his passing, I decided to dedicate this song in remembrance and memory of the life of Rapid T. Rabbit, and I feel that the song's lyrics has a dual purpose, to not only commemorate the 30 years of broadcasting he brought us all, but also for the joy and happiness he brought to each and every one of us, whether they knew him personally or admired him from afar. No one will ever replace Richard, for he was truly a one-of-a-kind friend to have, and he's the type of person in one's life where you can't believe he's gone. Even now, I keep looking at my phone, wondering when he's going to be calling me up to ask me about scheduling for my show or our next event together. I truly am going to miss Richard, but he will never be forgotten from my heart and soul, nor will the memories ever dissipate. May this song ring true to all the people who have known and loved Rapid T. Rabbit as much as I have.
May Richard Concepcion forever rest in peace among the rest of the close friends and family we have loved and lost, and may he find the same happiness with which he had blessed us all.
You Did It Hopping
A song for Rapid T. Rabbit
Parody lyrics written by Brett "SonicBlu" Blumfield
from the album "Voices in my Head"
Lyrics:
It's been for thirty years
That you have made your entertainment
For years, you made us laugh
Until we cried without containment
You've filled us full of puns
With silly jokes you kept on dropping
And how we loved them all, you did it hopping
Events we've seen you do
From Brooklyn Park right to the doo-dah
You loved the carousels, you rode them all without a hee-haw
You've spread your happiness, when we all smiled, we sure weren't stopping
And how we love you so, you did it hopping
Yes we had fun, I'm sure we did
From grown adults, to young and old kids
You made New York a brighter place
Not one of us kept a sad face
You've helped us all, and we recall, you did it hopping
We've laughed, until we cried
And when we cried, you kept us laughing
And now, you're still as good, your happiness is never baffling
I think you did just great
When Cuppy's cup was loose and dropping
But still, the show went on, you did it hopping
So, what could we do for your salute
If not this song, how 'bout some dried fruit?
But carrots are your food of choice, if you had some, you would rejoyce
Watch where you go, OW! that was my toe, you crushed it hopping
