Only a few short weeks remain until U.S. schoolchildren will return to their places of learning for another year. However, before students can begin their studies, school boards and districts all across the country are having to make some massive last-minute changes to align with the fact that $5.6M of public education funding that had been approved by Congress is now being withheld from U.S. schools by the trump administration. One impacted program is the Abilene Independent School District (AISD) adult education and literacy program, which is temporarily closed. At the same time, the district waits to hear what will become of the funding. Premier High School, Abilene Campus Director, Meredith Goodner, told KTAB/KRBC that she's gotten used to the occasional legislative hiccup getting in the way of school planning. However she said this year's federal changes were more than they've become accustomed to expect.
