YouTube "Myth" for a DTV antenna WORKS!
So I'm researching how to make a TV antenna for a project and I come across this video https://youtu.be/huaNWZQL6Nw from 2010 with over 1.2 million views. He sticks the coaxial cable to the screw in a light switch that holds the plate cover and picks up TV stations. I think to myself.... NO WAY! So I try it... Sure enough, I get 3 whole channels in my basement. Couldn't believe it so I had to share. Obviously, be careful of any static charges. My guess is this is working because those screws are connected to the house ground wire. I would not leave this as a permanent setup.
I actually get better results using the same coaxial cable with the other end cut off and the wire and shielding exposed (but not touching). I go from 3 channels to 7 channels. Results are better if the antenna is held so that both shielding and wire and going in opposite directions and pointing vertically.
