Hey guys, welcome to Episode 67! Today's game is the Wonderful End of the World. Which can only be described as a Katamari clone. Unfortunately, there's no silly "rolling" aspect to the game, so collecting objects from the environment seems a bit less fun. You can tell the developer loves Katamari, but it just doesn't capture that same wacky feel of its inspiration. It just misses the target and I can't really put my finger on why. It checks all the boxes, but it's not really as good. Maybe that's why? Maybe because it's trying so hard to be the same, it carves no real identity of its own whilst simultaneously just not being as good in general which is surprising because @Dejobaan made Drunken Robot Pornography, Elegy for a Dead World and Monster Loves You!

That being said, Katamari was created by a literal silly genius, so aiming that high is kind of futile unless you fully understand what he's aiming to convey and achieve with the game. Maybe I'm just being overly dickish about it (most likely, actually).

It's an alright game though, way better than DARK could ever hope to be and I only got like... 3 levels in before I finished the video, so maybe it gets a LOT better later on? I'll have to continue playing to find out. I recommend it if you're the kind of person who walks into pound-stretcher to buy bootleg He-Man figures or something!
