At the top of Iris Tower, Adol surprisingly finds Gazok's house, inside an equally surprised Gazok. The researcher explains the function of the Wings of Valor and gives Adol his well wishes on the oncoming final confrontation. Adol quite literally leaps into action, finally reaching the Golden Shrine.

Not too far inside, Guruda is waiting in his path. The mage reveals his true intentions all along, and even tells Adol of the ancient connections Celceta has with Ys and Esteria. Determined to see his plans come to fruition, Guruda stands as final guard to Eldeel's sacred ritual.

The first form of this boss is Guruda's human form, and it's very straightforward. He shoots 3 different types of attacks, the only one to really worry about is the energy that bounces around the room. He's always vulnerable in this phase, so it's easy to damage him. Despite how easy it is, it pays to take as little damage as possible due to the next phase.

Guruda's demon form isn't necessarily any more difficult, but it comes with the catch that the hitbox on his body is, besides being in line of all of his attacks, is virtually impossible to hit without taking damage. It's this game's bad hitboxes at its worst, and unless you use magic (which, from the moment you get it, is sadly weak against bosses) then you'll be going blow for blow with Guruda.

He only has two attacks, both of which create a dead zone in front of his hitbox, so it's very much a game of patience until you find the chance to strike swiftly and escape his next attack. Getting hit by either of those attacks or the occasional bits that come from his back is one less hit you can take when attacking him, so caution is advised. Thankfully, if push comes to shove you can always use the one USEFUL magic: the Hero Sword's healing. Though in that case every boss since Gadis becomes that much easier.

Guruda is finally defeated, leaving Adol to hurry and attempt to stop Eldeel from resurrecting the ancient power. Before he can go, however, Lefance, in typical Ys fashion, tells Adol he himself can lend his assistance but only through the Hero Equipment. Unlike Ys I and II you actually don't NEED the Hero Equipment for the final encounter, but without it it becomes that much more dangerous.
