Boss 1: Light Demon Valtemos

In Foresta Cave, Adol eventually finds Niena collapsed but alone. Upon her waking, she mentions how she wanted to see the place where her father Stein supposedly disappeared and meant for nothing bad to happen. The scouts Khai and Joey finally arrive and escort Niena back to town, while Willy coaxes Adol into venturing further into the cave. Adol's forced to make a quick rescue, and after stepping on an odd panel is transported to a different area altogether.

Inside, he discovers the girl mentioned in Foresta's monument, frozen in ice as was stated. A bracelet falls to the ground, and from it a phantom appears, introducing himself as the ancient sorcerer Stoker. He briefly explains his story and the fate of Foresta, the girl in the ice, before giving Adol the bracelet to keep for the future. Stoker shows Adol the way out, but with a word of warning. In the southern room, Adol finds himself locked in a new shrine with a giant beast awaiting him.

Alright, Ys V. As a first boss Valtemos sets the pace for this game's difficulty overall. It's pretty simple mainly because it's large, slow/essentially immobile, and lacks any hard to dodge attacks. And since this is one of the few games where Adol has access to blocking, the threat level goes that much lower. The majority of the game's bosses fall into a similar category/problem.

Valtemos slowly inches back and forth and attacks when it stops. Its head is its weak point, and also a hitbox (that isn't wonky like Mask of the Sun (!!?!?!)). When standing in front of it, it will typically fire up to five fireballs/balls 'o light directly at you which is probably its fastest attack. That being said, the fireballs can be blocked so camping in front of its face is pretty easy. Speaking of things that can be blocked, the hitbox on its face when it moves forward is also blockable in the chance that you're two close anticipating fireballs when it decides to move instead

When it raises its head, it does one of two things. Either it will roar and cause debris to fall from the ceiling (easily dodged by simply moving) or it will fire a laser from its forehead, its most damaging attack. The laser shoots from right to left, so it can be dodged by either walking left, up (not too reliable), or down. It's also possible to cancel the attack outright by walking off the screen so its forehead isn't visible. The game likes to run by the "if I didn't see it, it didn't happen" logic sometimes. Overall a pretty basic fight that doesn't require much on the input side of things.

Stoker appears, astonished at Adol's victory over what was actually the guardian of the Light Crystal. With the beast of Foresta Village's legend defeated, Stoker becomes free to move about the world to see how things have changed.

Adol finds his way out of the cave and he and Willy return to Foresta Village. There, he learns that Niena has made her way back to Xandria, and before heading there himself snags an element Willy scooped up in the cave.
