Ys X: Nordics - Final Battle and Ending
So here we have the Final Battle and Ending (With character and crew epilogue's endings) to YSX : Nordics.
Honestly I didn't like this game at ALL. I want to start off by explaining that I absolutely love YS8 and YS9. Both of those games are two of my favourites, however with YSX I was left feeling disappointed right at the very beginning of the game right up till the end.
First off the story is Adol joining a group of Vikings going on a quest to stop a horde of monsters. The story itself isn't a great one and boils down to Rollo (Viking ruler) being cursed by a god and having 3 evil spirits inside of him. These 3 then get released and are the bad guys you fight throughout the game.
The problem is that you never feel any sense of urgency or tension with what's happening within the game due to either the characters not being that interesting, combat feeling repetitive and dull, exploring that's slow and rather 'samey' or just the story in general not being that good.
The story isn't great and can be really boring at times.
Characters are not interesting at all weather it be your own crew or the enemies your up against.
Exploring feels very slow and mind numbing for the most part. I swear they made the ship go slow on purpose to drag out the game length.
All the islands you explore seem almost identical - its either rocky/hill type, small mountain type area, tiny dungeon which forces you to split up. There's no originality or unique areas to the game aside from maybe 2 areas.
The game received 'mixed' reviews upon release and a big part of that is down the game being mid but also due to the fact Nihon Falcom announced it was planning to release a 'Proud Nordics Edition' of the game after only two weeks of this version being released. PNE will (supposedly) have additional Mana wielders, new abilities aside from just the Air Board, Zip Cord and Magic Eye Monocle, A new Island and additional story content.
Even with all that I really cannot see how they can take a 6/10 game and magically transform it into an 9/10 game like what YS8 and 9 were. Another thing is that people don't like it when Atlus pulls this type of crap. Last thing people want is Nihon Falcom doing this too.
Either way here's the ending to YSX with all character quests done, All NPC quests done and an Ending to a story which never felt as if it was that important to begin with.
YSX is an OK game but it really could have been so much better than what it ended up being as its missing so much of what made 8 and 9 so enjoyable.
