Yuna vs Seymour at the Disco from SPIRA: Music from Final Fantasy X - dannymusic
Warning: Potential lyrical FFX spoilers ahead!
Here's a track I arranged for one of Materia Collective's most recent compilations and a little slide show to accompany! Seymour is one of the most interesting antagonists in the Final Fantasy series. Allegedly motivated by a desire to "save Spira from death," he forces protagonist Yuna into a shotgun marriage which could allow him to seize ultimate power, control of the gigantic, lethal monster known as Sin. Yuna is a brave Summoner who underwent numerous hardships while putting her people first. Although the musical material is based on the final Seymour battle (called "Fight With Seymour"), Yuna's response to the sham wedding is my main motivation for these lyrics.
I always thought "Fight With Seymour" had major disco vibes, so in arranging this piece, I tried to take the disco feel up to 11! Seymour is a well-deserving target for Yuna's acrimonious dialogue; motivations for Spira aside, he is a man in a position of power who uses that power to commit sexual assault. Not to mention, he does so while lying to a public who steadfastly believes in him. The pulsating bass and percussion section (not to mention horns) in the disco music serve to empower Yuna's words as she gives Seymour his rightful thrashing.
Hope you enjoy this piece, and thanks for listening! This piece and the rest of Materia Collective's 100-track double album SPIRA: Music from Final Fantasy X is available on Bandcamp, Spotify, and iTunes (as well as other services), and I will link to those below. Thanks for watching, and subscribe for more! More trombone multi-tracking coming soon, as well as another Mario Paint piece, and some surprise guests!
