Zeebo Footage: Quake - E1M1
A port of Quake was created by Tectoy for the Brazilian game console Zeebo and released in Brazil on May 25, 2009. The port includes all the levels from the PC version, but lacks soundtrack. The game was translated into Brazilian Portuguese, and does not feature multiplayer options.
Quake was offered for 10 Z-credits and each Brazilian Zeebo came with 35 Z-credits, so the game was sold virtually for free.
On June 15, 2010, both Quake and Quake II were removed from Zeebo's wireless network, the Brazilian Zeebonet. They were replaced by Zeebo Extreme Rolimã and Zeebo Extreme Jetboard as free downloads.
Some curious facts about this port:
- there is no music, but the data load contains 8 mp3 soundtracks, which are silent.
- the executable file is only 438K. The data load size, stored in a separate id1 folder, is around 62M.
- game code is allegedly based on GLQuake and uses OpenGL ES and hardware acceleration.
- multiplayer code seems to be present at least partially, but there is no menu to enable it.
This port can also be run on some BREW phones, inter alia, Casio C781 and Samsung SCH-U960, although the implementation of controls on a phone is incomplete.
