7As a way to commemorate the Tokyo Olympics I wanted to show you some Olympic-themed games. Unfortunately, the only ones I had were dedicated to winter games. Summer games came in all flavors, Zeebo had several sports games produced exclusively for this platform, however neither of them had Olympic branding.
And then I found this game. This is Atletismo, ported by TecToy and BRIZO, and released in Brazilian market. I suspect it was made for Vivo, being the carrier which used BREW platform there. The game is known to be produced for Nokia 6275 (240x320 version) and Motorola v323 (176x220 version).
The game's file name is "projectolympic" and the address to which it uploaded the high-score also had the name "olympic" in it. Was it supposed to be made as tie-in with the 2006 Olympic Games in Athens? We will never know...
What I do know, is that this version had a signature date of July 21, 2007. Coincidentally, Brazil hosted in São Paulo around these dates several major competitions in athletics: 37th South American Junior Championships in Athletics from June 30-July 1, 2007; the 14th Pan American Junior Athletics Championships from July 6 to July 8, 2007; and the third edition of the IBSA World Games (still at this time called the IBSA World Championships and Games) from July 28 to August 8, 2007. So the localized name might have been chosen considering the above.
According to the old TecToy web page, the original BANDAI's name of the game was Athletic Champ. I found mentions that it was originally released on August 9, 2005 for the US market by BANDAI America Inc., and mentions in the code that it might be even earlier released as KDDI's ez-appli.
The game is shown on a Samsung SCH-U380 Brightside (by Verizon) with its "gigantic" 3,1" display.
