Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link - 1/8/1 Challenge - Part 1: Desert Palace
10Rules of the challenge: Keep Attack and Life stats at Level 1 for the entire game
After having just finished a self-imposed challenge for my Final Doom: Plutonia Experiment Solo-Net run, let's start another challenge. This is one I've wanted to try for a while, actually. I've done both pieces of this challenge separately as a kid, but now I want to combine both pieces together. I've beaten Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link once with Level 1 Attack and once with Level 1 Life as a kid, but I never tried both of them together.
Unfortunately you can't keep all three stats at Level 1 for the entire game, since you're forced to upgrade one when you're able to afford all three at once, so you have to pick just one stat to upgrade for the entire game. There are three different challengs you can do with this: there's the 8/1/1 Challenge where you only upgrade Attack, there's the 1/8/1 Challenge (which is the one I'm doing now) where you only upgrade Magic, and there's the 1/1/8 Challenge where you only upgrade Life.
With the 1/8/1 Challenge, enemies (especially later bosses) can rip through you like paper while it takes forever to kill even regular enemies. This is, in my opinion, the hardest one of the three above-mentioned stat challenges for that very reason. Let's just say you had better make full use of that Magic power!
Part 1 covers up to the end of the first palace.
