Shakespeare would be rolling in his grave if he had a VR headset on in there. Coffins aren't a great place to VR, which is why I felt compelled to do this while we can before end of September 2020, while this timed interaction is still available.

Verdict: Consider.

Would I recommend others jump in and play the same? Is this an unmissable experience you've got to go see? Well, frankly, no. Sorry.

All-in-all, I found 'The Tempest' to play out like a whizzy VR Chat improv night. The tools the leader had are nice, but in my opinion, the loss of the actual social interaction of the attendees is a bigger loss than those 'magic tricks' are a gain to the production. I would suggest for a bit more money ($25/person for 4 people) checking out 'Dr. Crumbs School of Disobedient Pets' instead, as something to share with friends or family.

Having been involved in several stage acting experiences myself at school and university level, I didn't find this telling of 'The Tempest' to be gripping nor easy to follow. The experience itself is on par with other The Under Presents engagements - i.e. it's more odd than enjoyable and the artwork that does show through isn't topping that which you can find in better, discreet packages, elsewhere.

Is it unique? Most certainly. It's just a first step, however. If you're not a "must try all the firsts" pioneer, then I'd suggest give this a year or two in the oven and keep your ear out for better, related works to come in future.

I admire where this approach is going, but the ticket purchasing system and the actual performances need polish and more cohesion. I'd also encourage those directing the performance to go for a less literal telling of famous works, to help 'upgrade them' for modern audiences and attention. A story a little more off the beaten track could have helped deepen my enjoyment (and immersion), here.

With that, I hope this summary has helped anyone who was still left curious and considering this timed experience.
