Being paid to do what you love is great. We here at Screen Rant know this well. And as it happens, so do actors. Acting is a job. It’s easy to forget that when we watch our favourite films and shows, but it is. And the fact of the matter is that money matters, regardless of what your job is. And sometimes that takes precedence when an actor agrees to take on a part.
When you hit the big time in Hollywood, the pay is good. And sometimes, the pay is so good that actors might take on a role they can’t stand, or that they don’t really care much about, just because they know what they stand to gain.
In this video we take a look at how Alec Guinness agreed to play Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi because he had a profit sharing deal which set to make him a good deal of money, but he didn’t like his time as the character. And how Robert Pattinson took on the role of the sparkling Edward Cullen, despite hating the character and the story. And how Orson Welles had to take on his last role in Transformers, just to keep himself financially afloat.
How Morgan Freeman took his role in London has Fallen because he never knows when the next film will come calling. How Stephen Dillane said the biggest thing he got out of Game of Thrones was the money. That Betsy Palmer only took her role as Ms Vorhees to buy a new car, and how Henry Cavill is enjoying all the fortune his newfound fame has brought him. And how Glenn Close is enjoying her blockbuster movies because they allow her to work on smaller projects.
And what of Harrison Ford, whose role in The Force Awakens made him the highest paid actor in history?
