In Hollywood, the business is all about convincingly portraying other characters - but just how far will some actors go to transform for their performances? We’ve got ten actors who dove in headfirst, committing to rigorous body transformations, extreme hair changes, and overwhelming prosthetics, and another ten who refused to conform to what the producers wanted - even a detail as small as a wig!
When Marvel calls, the performers have to rise to the challenge - and typically that includes a superhero transformation that can only be achieved through intense physical training and strict diets. Kumail Nanjiani and Simu Liu both went to work, Liu learning martial arts and Kumail aiming to get jacked so he could portray a strong Pakistani superhero that could hang out with Thor and Captain America.
Jennifer Lawrence makes the list twice - and on both sides of the coin! Don’t Look Up saw the actress take on a drastic hair transformation, but when the producers of The Hunger Games wanted her to lose some weight Lawrence wasn’t into it. Tom Holland happens to make the list twice as well! He was all in when he lost almost thirty pounds for the movie Cherry, but when the producers of Spider-Man: No Way Home wanted him to wear a wig, Holland wasn’t so agreeable.
Florence Pugh, Sofia Vergara, Amy Schumer, and Margot Robbie are all included for the same reason as Jennifer Lawrence - all of them at some point refused to go through treacherous diets to lose weight for a role. Clearly, all these actors are in good company! No matter the choice they made, all these actors nailed their roles.
