The Marvel Cinematic Universe helped Robert Downey Jr. get his career back on track. Although his star is burning brighter, there have been a lot of MCU actors who should have had bigger roles. Christopher Eccleston says he was misled about his part in Thor: The Dark World, and he wasn’t thrilled about the amount of time he had to spend getting his makeup done. Zachary Levi has what it takes to star in his own superhero movie, yet in the Thor franchise he was just a minor side character. The role of Heimdall wasn’t as disastrous as his part in Cats, but Idris Elba wished he had a bigger role in the franchise. Rachel McAdams is a talented actress who got stuck playing one of the least convincing romantic roles we’ve seen in the series. Iron Man 3 was supposed to be a big break for Rebecca Hall, but her part was cut down for a surprising reason. Doctor Strange could have had Mads Mikkelsen playing a memorable villain, but instead Kaecilius was little more than a glorified henchman. Tim Blake Nelson was promised a bigger role, but now many people forget about the movie The Incredible Hulk entirely! Even though Sam Rockwell had a minor role in Iron Man 2, it was one of the highlights of the film and many feel more could have been done with his character.
