Description:
John Cena debuted in the WWE 15 years ago, and all he’s managed to do since then is win some two-dozen Championships, emerge victorious from two Royal Rumbles, become the highest-paid and arguably biggest star in the WWE, and supplement wrestling with an ever-expanding film and TV career. With all this, you’d think his ride to the top would have been smooth, but that’s far from the truth.
When Cena lost any of his early matches, critics said he couldn’t wrestle. When he won them, they said he was too green and undeserving. Then he established himself as a legitimate, long-term wrestler, and the complaints starting coming in that he wouldn’t put other wrestlers over, as if he were brandishing a non-existent version of Hulk Hogan’s creative control clause. Or that he had to be carried in some matches, when it was often Cena’s freakishly large shoulders doing the heavy lifting.
With every success story and every step Cena climbed, somebody would find something to complain about. Obviously he has ascended past the point where he needs to listen to detractors, and the amount of Cena Critics drops more every year - mostly because Cena has a knack for proving people wrong. Here are 10 times John Cena silenced his critics.
