10 years ago the beautiful people at Crytek released the sequel to the critically acclaimed game “Crysis”, the title was greeted by fans with overall good but also mixed opinions, and I was one of the people who enjoyed it. The scope of this game was really massive, from its setting, to its soundtrack and graphical presentation. But now that Crysis 2 is 10 years old, does it still hold up? Is it still capable of delivering a unique experience? And most of all, is it still fun to play? Well let's put on our nano suit, kill some alien polyps, and fight for New York City to find out!

As you start the game you are thrown into a cinematic that sets the tone for the rest of the game. This is an incredible introductory cutscene for its action pack presentation, and it also serves as a mean to show to the player what he or she will be able to do with the nano suit – its enhanced strength, the cloak, the maximum armor and the tactical view are all present here. And by the way, all of this is shown while the incredible soundtrack of Hans Zimmer delivers a first emotional and exciting impact to captivate all the gamers in this dangerous world.

The story of Crysis 2 is very intricate, but in the end there isn't really too much to it.
New York is already fricked up by some kind of disease, economics are collapsing, people are literally melting, and because of this some marines have been sent to New York likely to aid the population. In the shoes of one of these marines, which goes by the name of “Alkatraz”, you witness an alien attack on the submarines that are approaching New York and get rescued by Prophet, who is dying because of the disease that is affecting the city. He decides to give Alkatraz the Nano Suit instructing him to save New York, as he now is the only hope humanity has against the aliens, the Ceph.
Alkatraz quickly learns that Prophet was also being chased by a private military company known as “Cell” which is in New York to help but is in reality doing some fishy stuff, and through the course of the game Alkatraz tries his best to replace Prophet in his secret mission to save New York, and in the end Alkatraz is able to combine the Suit with the technology of the aliens as a mean to eradicate them from New York.
The goal of Crysis 2's story is to shock the player with its apocalyptic theme, science fiction elements and human elements while also offering the tools to overcome situations that a normal human being would not be able to handle.

The gameplay and structure of the game is what really polarized some of the first opinions on Crysis 2. While the first Crysis was a much more open experience that allowed you to approach each encounter how you pleased the most in very wide environments, Crysis 2 offers a more linear and streamlined experience, that only opens up slightly and less frequently than its predecessor. The reality is, that Crysis 2's approach was ultimately different from the first Crysis, but not a bad approach by any means, in fact the linearity of Crysis 2's levels is executed very well, and the game still gives the player a bunch of options to win the encounters he is given, such as alternative routes and advantage points, ammo crates, and of course weapons.
On top of this there is of course the Nano Suit, which grants you all the abilities we've seen in the game's intro and can be upgraded as well as your loadout. Plus, the game features a gravity system that allows Alkatraz to throw most of the items you find in the game at his enemies, even cars! One thing that I believe is never mentioned is how Crysis 2 was one of the first, if not the first game to feature mechanics like sliding and climbing on edges, that since then have been staple of the shooter genre. The only real issue of Crysis 2 is the enemy AI, that is most times not very smart and some times even so buggy that makes NPCs runs over walls for quite some time, but the latter doesn't happen so often to ruin the player's experience in my opinion.

It wouldn't be a Crysis video without talking about the graphics, which did age considerably well if you don't get very close to walls or floors to check the textures, one part that did age particularly well is the lightning, which is able to enhance the 3D models and the textures of the game in a very impressive way for a 2011 game.

So, is Crysis 2 still a power trip after 10 years? Yes, it is, but I would suggest you to avoid the Post-Human Warrior difficulty, not because it's unbalanced or too hard, but because it kinda forces you to play the game in a much more stealth fashion than it was probably designed to be played as.
