Oops, apparently at least one of the new music tracks--the ones that replaced the original tracks by Bad Religion and The Offspring--can trigger a copyright claim on YouTube: "Radical Sabbatical" by The Days The Nights. So I had to chop out its two minute, fourteen second segment at 0:56.
(The song's official YouTube home is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXQIJAHVPRk .)
Fortunately--I think--the music tracks are loose files installed with the game, under Program Files (x86) \ Steam \ steamapps \ common \ Crazy Taxi \ SoundData \ music_adx -- so now I've just taken Radical_Sabbatical.adx out of that folder, and the game seems to play just fine without it, choosing from the other tracks instead.
It suggests that the licensing terms Sega used for these new tracks were STILL rather slipshod, so I won't be too surprised if some of the twelve remaining tracks end up triggering claims at some point as well; maybe eventually I'll be playing with no music. There are .adx music format converters out there (from user-made tools for Sonic games, it looks like), so I suppose it might be possible to stick in replacement, public domain tracks if the silence became deafening. ; D
(Oh yeah replacing the music must be possible, come to think of it; there's already the mod that replaces the replacement music with the original tracks. ; )
Playing Arcade Rules instead of 10 Minutes mode, I was worried it was going to be all about finding a set route--but much more important, it feels like, is efficient driving, and not losing passenger tips (and time) by hitting things; if you can do that stuff well enough, maybe you don't have to worry so much about sticking to a specific route, I dunno. Although in any case, they sure don't want you going back from the start point--none of the fares around there that I tried want to go back, and if you drive back without a fare, you have to go for a long way--through a ritzy weird little suburbia--without anything to show for it.
