#13 Darksiders Genesis - Chapter 13: Dagon (Mayhem)
7Darksiders Genesis is a top-down action hack-and-slash with coop mechanics developed by Airship Syndicate and published by Nordic Games. A spin-off from the Darksiders series which story is a prequel of the story narrated in the main games. In this game, you will be using two of the four horsemen, namely, War (protagonist of the first game) and Strife (the final horseman making his first playable appearance in the series) who are given the mission of finding and stopping a sinister plot converging in hell which involves a conspiracy between its masters. With this duo, you will be uncovering the events that occurred before the extinction of humanity and some details on what did the horsemen do before the apocalypse. Assisting the duo in their goal are the returning game merchant Vulgrim and some other individuals both new and familiar.
A game that received a Metacritic score of 74 (Nintendo Switch) and 77 (PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One). Even though the game was considered less than stellar than the main games due to it being less polished, praises were still given on its fighting mechanics, art style and design of its characters and areas, and the graphics of the game. On the other hand, mixed reactions were focused on its short story; basic puzzles and platforming; and its overhead camera movements. Regardless, the game still went on to sale above expectations as stated by THQ Nordic through Lars Wingeford, CEO of parent company the Embracer Group.
As for me, being a big fan of the Darksiders series, this game was a big improvement from the disappointing Darksiders III game. The hack and slash action is crisp and polished, Great diversity between the two protagonists were noted with Strife focused on long range combat, baits and traps while War is the straight out tanker and big AOE damager of the duo. Due to this, I had great experience playing this game both in single player and coop. The art style graphics design is always great with series creator Steve Madureira helming this section. Unlike the critic reviews, I really liked its story even though its short as it gave some details on the world before the creation of the pact between the demons and angels and gave some more depth to its participating characters. The puzzle section is also a great part for me particularly when you play this in coop. However, the platforming part is its biggest weakness with the overhead camera most of the time not helping you. Moreover, this game had one of the most stupid platforming sections in the whole gaming which is a major pain in the ass. Regardless, a really great game for me and I really recommend you playing this whether solo or with someone. Enjoy the walkthrough!
