Operates on single AA battery with LED. Good thing about this is most LED setups require close to 3 volts to operate which means having to use 2 batts. I wanted 1.5 volts because less likely to damage circuits while testing for shorts and it's smaller and easier to use. The solar light circuitry pulls this off while using a large LED which is great. No worries about blown bulbs which is what happened to my GE tester from walmart which they no longer carry and I cannot find the cylinder fuse type bulbs for. That is why I made this and I like it much better than the GE one.
