Some 1541's are a project, while others just need to be checked over...and just because a drive comes on and looks to be OK, it does not mean that it is OK...best to load a directory, read a disk, run the performance test from the 1541 test demo disk, and maybe even the check disk file to give all aspects of the drive a pretty find workout!

And, do not forget to document your findings and what you did so you do not have to do things over and over again over the years...
