Putting my drive back together...and then I will test it to make sure that everything is working...and then we go for the testing of the hopefully fixed circuit boards! I have to gather the 64 and the cables, etc...
It is time to let the soldering iron cool down and fire up the de-soldering iron...I have replaced the tip on it just today, so it should work very well...the heads are like a soldering iron business end, but they have a hole that can and does help with the solder extraction when the red rubber ball is released...and they do wear out after being used repeatedly...so it was time for a fresh tip! In this video, we remove the RAM chip from location U3 on the 1571 board...it is reported to be the error when the drive flashes once endlessly...so sayeth the diagnostics I found online...and I hope they are right! If you are going to do any of this, take your time...do not be in a rushed situation, and if you are distracted, shut off or unplug the iron(s) before you make a mad dash away...they get hot and can harm anything or anybody that touches the hot end of a soldering iron!
Time to crank up the soldering iron to facilitate the removal of the shielding from the bottom of all of the 1571 circuit boards...they are fastened by little twist pieces but there is one that is indeed more secure with solder...and yes, I could just twist it and snap it off, it is better to undo it in a more regulated fashion...so, we are getting close...very close, and soon, we will be there!
