I've played the Super Mario Maker games for a few hundred hours, but I've never tried tackling a Kaizo level before. Well, when I was going through Hot Expert Courses one hot day in mid-July, a Team Shell level (#TS) by Banana came up for some reason, despite having a 1% clear rate. I decided that I'd TRY making it the very first Kaizo level I ever beat.

I've only done a few shell jumps before, so it took me some time to get the timing down. I needed to kick the shell right before the apex of my jump. Figuring out what I did wrong in my mistakes was essential to improving. If it hit me or went over me, I kicked too late, but if it went under me, I kicked too soon. And the shell drop timing was even trickier for me to figure out. I needed to let go of the shell at the apex of my jump. If it hit me or went over me, I let go too late, but if my character didn't bonk the shell, I let go too soon. And there were other challenges in the level to tackle, too!

I didn't include every attempt in this video, but I will tell you at the end how long it took me to beat the level... or finally give up on it. The code is 8X0-3J4-1SF if you feel like trying it yourself.
