For a lot of kids growing up in the ‘90s, watching anime on television was some of the first exposure they got to the genre. Viewers fell in love with Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh! and especially Dragon Ball Z. So it must be a shock to many growing up that the shows they were watching were heavily edited from their original form. Things like Dragon Ball Z cutting back on the violence and blood, Pokemon Americanizing a lot of its elements or Yu-Gi-Oh! completely inventing the Shadow Realm to avoid talking about death.
