The 12th Annual OHS Pug Crawl comes to Portland on May 20th, 2012.
This year's theme is Pug Nation: A Better Pug for a Better America!
With presidential elections six months away, we decided it was time for pug lovers to offer a candidate of their own for the White House.
Pug Nation is expected to be one the largest gathering of pugs in the world, attracting an estimated 500 four-legged friends and more than 1,000 people.
The highlight of the day is the Parade of Pugs,
where, if past tradition holds, almost 100 costumed pugs will walk the runway and compete for the title of President of Pug Nation.
Like any good political event, there will be food, beer, live music, and other refreshments. All well-behaved dogs on leash are welcome -- Pug Nation does not discriminate against breeds (the costume parade, however, iis open only to pugs, pug-mixes and their human companions).
The festivities take place from 1 pm - 4 pm outside MacTarnhan's Taproom in Northwest Portland.
We don't know if the new President will be a Repuglican or a Demopug, or perhaps from a third party (Pugs for Peace?). We do know the winner will be chosen based on the creativity and originality of his or her costume.
The Grand Marshall of this year's parade is Anita Kissee, news reporter for KATU-2. Kissee's pug, Sigmund, is a past Pug Crawl winner. Other celebrity pugs should also be on hand -- watch this web page for more details.
