Hyundai wants its new Genesis luxury cars to compete with BMW and Mercedes-Benz. The G90, its larger model, specifically targets the Mercedes S-Class and BMW 7 Series and offers plenty of interior comfort and luxury as well as a great infotainment system, all at a price significantly below those of its German competitors.
The G90 features one of two engines: The Premium gets a 3.3-liter turbocharged V6 that makes 365 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque, and the Ultimate uses a 5.0-liter V8 making 425 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. Power gets sent through an 8-speed automatic transmission to rear-wheel or available all-wheel drive, and the drivetrain offers four driving modes, one of which is completely personalizable.
With available heated and ventilated reclining rear seats and dual rear touchscreens, the back seat of a G90 should be a fine place to soak up some miles, but we’ll have to wait and see how many shoppers will choose a brand-new brand over the established luxury leaders.
