Kia has vehicles to satisfy America’s still-growing hunger for crossovers, but the 2018 Stinger marks its first attempt to woo U.S. sports car fans. Our reviewer’s week with the car convinced him its performance can live up to the expectations set by its looks but also that it offers strong value, even at a price Kia shoppers will likely find surprising. George Kennedy spent a week with the flagship GT2 AWD, and while his 6-foot, 3-inch frame found the backseat cramped, he very much enjoyed driving the Stinger, particularly the feel of its variable-ratio steering and the sound of its exhaust note.
The Stinger offers two engines, a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 255 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque and a 3.3-liter twin-turbocharged V6 with 365 hp and 376 lb-ft. Each engine uses an 8-speed automatic transmission, and each trim is available with rear- or all-wheel drive.
