I wanted to fix my Index audio being blown out. In the end, a month later, I found that I had a duplicate microphone source which wrecked everything.

It even created frequency cancellation in the recording, which in hindsight is a bit fascinating but also makes sense. If the duplicated audio has a slight delay, whenever that delay represents n+½ of a wavelength it will cancel it out. I think.
