he 3 Series sedan is vital to BMW’s health. Though the company’s customers have gradually shifted into SUVs such as the BMW X3, and despite the automaker splitting apart the previous 3 Series lineup by rebadging the coupes and convertibles as the 4 Series, the 3 Series remains popular with people who are new to the family and with people who’ve driven BMWs for years.
BMW last redesigned the 3 Series for 2019, and it can’t sit idly by as newcomers like the redesigned 2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class attempt to siphon customers. Therefore, it is no surprise that the 2023 BMW 3 Series gets its predictable mid-life refresh, bringing with it mild styling updates and a massive technology upgrade in the form of a new BMW Curved Display.

As it did before, BMW will offer the 2023 3 Series as the 330i, 330e, and M340i. As you may have already guessed, the powertrains carry over from 2022. That means the 330i has a turbocharged 4-cylinder, the 330e has a plug-in hybrid electric version of the 330i’s engine, and the M340i has a turbocharged inline 6-cylinder.

Separately, the M3 performance variant remains available, and if it gets any changes for 2023, we’ll report on those when BMW officially announces the details.
