The triple World Champion conducted a Masterclass in Austin on Saturday, winning the Sprint race from the pole in his Red Bull RB19 in front of a capacity crowd sweltering in 33deg C weather. Max ran wheel-to-wheel with Ferrari's Charles Leclerc into the first corner - but it was Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton who then took the initiative from Leclerc. Lewis pushed Max hard in the opening laps before drifting away into a solid P2 with increasing tyre deg. Verstappen, running lots of wing and nursing the tyres whenever possible (thanks to his car's inherent top speed advantage) then won in style. Leclerc finished third and McLaren's Lando Norris fourth. Peter Windsor in this video looks back at both the Sprint race (00:00); the Shoot-Out (08:52); and at the hard tyre, full-tank runs on Friday (07:55) that may prove to be significant in the Grand Prix on Sunday, when Max starts P6.

Music: T. Bless & the Professionals - Gymnopédie No 1. This is in part a tribute to François Cevert, who lost his life 50 years ago this month. As well as being the brightest of young F1 stars, François was also a concert-standard pianist. Pierre Gasly is wearing a Cevert-themed helmet in Austin this weekend.
