2023 Samsung's prototype OLED mobile display can both slide and fold: Fantastic
Samsung folded its displays almost in every manner possible at CES last year, but this year it's adding another trick: sliding. At CES 2023, the Flex Hybrid OLED mobile screen will make its premiere. It has the ability to slide out on one side and fold from the other, changing both the size and aspect ratio.
It can unfold to a 10.5-inch 4:3 display that is suitable for productivity, starting out at a size of about 4.2 inches broad. The right half may then be pushed out to reveal a 12.4-inch screen with a 16:10 aspect ratio. Given the potential outstanding image quality provided by OLED display technology, that would make it suitable for entertainment or content development.
According to the extra thickness on the right side of the display, the additional two inches of screen seem to slide out from under the device's right side when slid out. A 12.4-inch, 16:10 OLED tablet, perfect for entertainment or working while on the go, could theoretically fit in a jacket pocket thanks to the combination of technologies.
At CES 2023, two additional Samsung displays will make their public debuts. By sliding open from one side, the Flex Slidable Solo can be expanded from a 14-inch OLED panel to a wider 17.3-inch display. And to perform the same conversion, the Flex Slidable Duet OLED expands from two sides. Although they have not yet been made public, both panels were showcased at Intel's Innovation 2022 event in September.
