Although it wears the Equinox nameplate, the 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV bears little else in common with that compact SUV. Not the least of which its powertrain, which swaps gasoline power for electrons. The Equinox EV's exterior styling blends futuristic touches with more traditional crossover design cues, and it looks pretty cool. Chevy hasn't yet released many details about the new SUV, but we expect a driving range of close to 300 miles per charge. Unlike the smaller Bolt EUV, we expect all-wheel drive to be an option on the Equinox EV, which likely means dual electric motors and slightly more power than the 200-hp Bolt.
What's New for 2024?
The Equinox EV will be an all-new, all-electric model when it joins the Chevrolet lineup in fall 2023 as a 2024 model.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
LT - $30,000 (est)
RS - $40,000 (est)
So far, only the LT and RS trim levels have been announced, but Chevy could expand the lineup with a base LS or a top-level Premier trim closer to the Equinox EV's on-sale date. Pricing isn't official, but we're told to expect a starting price around $30,000.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Few details have been shared about the Equinox EV's interior, but from the photos we can see a digital dashboard similar to that of the recently revealed Silverado EV and styling themes that mirror the Bolt EV hatchbackand Bolt EUV crossover. Front passenger space looks similar to the current Equinox, but we'll have to wait for more details and a test drive to know for sure.
The simulated images present a blue car (compared to red and silver images shown in January), with an interesting thing - a white roof and mirrors. It suggests that there will be a two-tone color option.
The company encourages us to visit its website and sign up for updates of the Chevrolet Equinox EV, as well as other upcoming models (Silverado EV, Blazer EV and "Future EV").
According to the video, the market launch of the 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV is scheduled for Fall 2023, but only the "RS" version. Availability of the "LT" version will be announced at a later date.
The announcement released in January indicated that the entry-level version will start at an estimated MSRP of around $30,000, however, we are not so sure about the price now, because we all know what is happening with prices.
As in the case of other Chevrolet EVs, the Equinox EV is based on the GM's Ultium platform and it should not have any issue with offering 300 miles (483 km) of range. The initial batch of images showed 235 miles (378 km) of range at about 3/4 state-of-charge, displayed in the instrument cluster.
Before the Chevrolet Equinox EV reaches the market, Chevrolet will launch the Silverado EV pickup and the recently teased Chevrolet Blazer EV. Those three models are the brand's spearhead of electrification, while the Cadillac starts with the Lyriq and GMC already launched the GMC Hummer EV Pickup.
The electric Equinox will go on sale in fall 2023. It will launch with both fleet and retail versions, including LT and RS trims. Lower trims of the 2024 Equinox EV won't roll on wheels quite as large as the ones in the initial photos, nor have as much tech as higher-trim models. Depending on the electric SUV's range, however, that may not be an issue if it carries an MSRP in the low-$30,000 range.
