Secure those soccer balls and strollers, there's a special Chevrolet Tahoe begging to be first in line at school drop-off. It's called the 2023 Chevy Tahoe RST Performance Edition, and it's the baddest Tahoe yet. The package promises to merge the comfort and convenience of Chevy's most popular full-size SUV with the enhanced handling and performance of the pursuit-rated police Tahoe. We're not seeing any downside to any of this.
Like its predecessors, the Tahoe RST Performance Edition has a couple of tricks up its sleeve. The 6.2-liter V-8 under the hood, optional for RST, gets 433 horsepower and 467 lb-ft of torque thanks to Chevrolet Performance intake and exhaust systems. That's a bump of 13 hp and 7 lb-ft of torque over the base 6.2-liter for the Tahoe. It's no Cadillac Escalade-V, but it's the highest-horsepower factory Tahoe you can get your hands on. It's also the quickest Tahoe yet, accelerating from zero to 60 mph in a highly specific 5.78 seconds. Chevy says it can clock a quarter mile 14.2 seconds at 97 mph. It can tow 7,600 pounds, the same as the base 6.2-liter RST.
What really sets the RST Performance Edition apart is that it yanks performance components, calibrations, and tuning from the pursuit-rated Tahoe PPV package for police. For example, the springs, retuned dampers, and larger stabilizer bar are police-spec. The chassis calibrations and feel of brakes resonate with the pursuit-rate Tahoe. This hopped-up family hauler is lowered 0.4 inch in the front and 0.8 inch in the rear just like, as you guessed it, the cop Tahoe. The fact that it can go 124 mph doesn't mean you should, even if front and rear Brembo brakes with hello-officer Torch Red calipers enhance stopping prowess.
It's not all copped-out—Chevy also tosses in the Tahoe's Luxury Package, which bundles a plethora of safety and driver convenience features like memory seat settings, a heated steering wheel, Rear Pedestrian Alert, HD Surround Vision, and more.
The Tahoe RST Performance Edition package, available for the four-wheel drive 2023 Chevy Tahoe RST with the 6.2-liter V-8, comes in at $8,525. You'll also be able to cross off be a policeman when I grow up from your bucket list (it's close enough to count), so it's really a win-win deal. Production begins in the fourth quarter of 2022.
