2025 Ford EXPLORER – New Face and a Fresh Interior / ALL-NEW Ford EXPLORER 2025

The Ford Explorer SUV receives updates, maintaining its suburban family appeal. The streamlined lineup offers Active, ST-Line, ST, and Platinum trims, with prices ranging from $41,220 to $56,800. Notable features include a 300-horsepower turbo-four for the Active, ST-Line, and Platinum, while the ST boasts a 400-horsepower twin-turbo V-6. All models feature a 10-speed automatic transmission with optional rear- or all-wheel drive.

Cosmetic changes include a reworked front fascia, grille, headlamps, and lower air inlets. Platinum, ST, and ST-Line trims offer a black-painted roof and introduce the BlueCruise hands-free driving feature. Interior upgrades prioritize comfort, introducing soft-touch surfaces on the center console and door panels. The 2025 Explorer pioneers the Ford Digital Experience software, enhancing user connectivity and enabling native streaming and internet browsing when parked.

Starting at $41,220, the Active trim is an entry point, while the absence of the Limited model makes the ST-Line an attractive mid-level option, blending sportiness and affordability. Additional perks include a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, flat-bottom ST steering wheel, heated second-row seats, and power folding mirrors. Opting for all-wheel drive at an additional $2,000 enhances performance.

Powertrains include a base turbo-four and the ST's twin-turbo V-6, both paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The Explorer ST stands out for its performance and a towing capacity of up to 5000 pounds.

Fuel efficiency varies, with the turbo-four achieving up to 21 mpg city and 28 highway. Real-world testing shows the Explorer ST surpassing its EPA rating, achieving 25 mpg on a 75-mph highway route. The four-cylinder Explorer with all-wheel drive also outperforms expectations, returning 28 mpg.

The 2025 Explorer's interior receives a comfort boost, featuring new color schemes and additional soft-touch materials. The redesigned dashboard prioritizes front passenger space, while a mechanism facilitates easy access to the standard third row. The Explorer impresses with cargo space, accommodating four carry-on suitcases behind the third row and 31 carry-ons with both back rows folded flat.

Infotainment-wise, a 13.2-inch LCD touchscreen is standard, featuring the Ford Digital Experience software for seamless app integration. Standard amenities include access to Google and Amazon apps, compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and entertainment features like streaming, internet browsing, and games via Google Play. A 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo comes standard on all trims except the base Active.

Safety remains a priority with standard driver-assistance technology, including forward-collision warning, automated emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear-cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist. The Explorer also offers upgrades like self-parking assist.

Ford's warranty coverage includes a three-year or 36,000-mile limited warranty and a five-year or 60,000-mile powertrain warranty, aligning with industry standards. However, Ford does not provide complimentary scheduled maintenance, a feature offered by competitors like Toyota and Chevy.
