Blasphemous is a dark and rather gruesome 2D metroidvania/soulslike pixel art platformer action game (do we have a better name for that genre yet?), and its uncompromising aesthetic is both seductive but, for people of a certain disposition, also rough on the senses. It's not a game I would recommend playing for long stretches of time, but it's also not a game I would recommend ignoring.

Let's talk for a while about its aesthetics and approach to visual representation of spiritual suffering.
