I may not have any footage of Turtles in Time from the arcade, but it was ported to the Super Famicom/Super Nintendo.

Not to be outdone, the Genesis/Mega Drive received The Hyperstone Heist, which reuses many of the assets from Turtles in Time to create a stellar game on its own.

Finally, Ubisoft tried their hands at remaking Turtles in Time for 7th generation consoles.

Who did it best? Let me know what you think in the comments.

My take:

Graphics: TMNT IV: Turtles in Time just gets the edge over The Hyperstone Heist because of lighter and brighter colors. The Turtles' faces in Ubisoft's Turtles in Time look weird to me.

Music: Toss up, though TMNT IV does offer the most variety in stages and music. I don't think the Ubisoft soundtrack stands up to the 16-bit ones.

Controls: I would be tempted to give it to TMNT IV because of nostalgia's sake, but Ubisoft lets you attack up and down. The inclusion of a dedicated run button makes for some unique tactics on Genesis, while the other inputs seem a bit slow. Edge: Ubisoft.

Duration: How would you like to spend your 32 minutes? Broken up into smaller chunks like Turtles in Time or longer but fewer stages like Hyperstone Heist? No Technodrome from Ubisoft is a bust.

Enemies: If you are used to the color palate on SNES the different enemies on Genesis may surprise you. There are fewer bosses in Hyperstone Heist, although Tatsu is a different challenge, as is the boss rush. TMNT IV has Slash while Ubisoft has Cement Man from the arcade. I give the edge to SNES.

X-Factor: SNES makes use of Mode 7 in Neon Night Riders. I've also played it countless times with friends. SNES wins, nostalgia or not.

Bottom line: TMNT IV: Turtles in Time on the Super Famicom/Nintendo is still the best Turtles game. It's time for Konami to put out a TMNT Collection in the footsteps of Castlevania Anniversary, Contra Collection and the Castlevania Advance Collection.
