Pokemon started the whole creature raising phase for me but it wasn't the only game in town. Monster Rancher took it to a totally different place by having you use real discs to get creatures. Trying all the different games and music CDs to see what creature we got was so much fun. The gameplay itself was solid enough to warrant multiple playthroughs to be the best trainer.
