393 (Cin. Platf.) Listen to the Rhythm of the Falling RAIN (day 1)
SONG: Rhytym of the Rain.
Kicking off the second annual Cinematic Platformer September (while isolating with COVID) with this beautifula nd alternately relaxing and tense Playstation 3 exclusive (suggested by stalk4wooder). In Rain, we play as a boy who sees a girl running through the rain and follows her into an alternate dimension, sort of. They are invisible except when the rain falls on them, a memorable and high-concept mechanic. The city streets are deserted. Except . . . not entirely. Hideous beasts, like a skeletal cross between dinosaurs and dogs, also stalk the streats, invisible except in the rain, hunting the children down. A lumbering nine-foot-tall giant, The Unknown, is bent on killing the girl with his huge club, and he's only too happy to turn his attention to the boy.
You know me, I love the horror-like elements of this 3D platformer, but I like so much more about this game. The pacing, core gameplay, puzzles, graphics, mood. Even the sounds and the light presence of music. This game oozes style, and it's a damn shame this hasn't gotten a PC port. I can't wait to finish it next stream (this is only the first half) and didn't want to stop. Then we end with a song of the day, which we havne't had in a while.
We speculate about how the boy's parents would worry if they knew all the dangerous things he was doing. Next, we'll fgure out why triceratops hate trolleys so much!
