In 1993, two years after the release of SF2 and months prior to Virtua Fighter, Dark Edge was the first attempt of SEGA to create a 3D fighting game, but used Sega's Sprite Scaling technology rather than polygons, resulting in a "2D Panoramic Scrolling Fighting Game" kinda like "Dragon Ball Z: The Legend" for PlayStation and Sega Saturn.
Dark Edge is the first fighting game with 8-way movement.
