486 retro computer build and cache installation. Shuttle HOT-419 Motherboard with DOS benchmarks.
One of the projects I have been wanting to complete is a rebuild and test of my Shuttle HOT-149 486 VLB motherboard. #retro #motherboard #computer
The motherboard is on my test bench and we install a Number 9 Vision 330 VLB video card with the S3 Trio 64 chipset and a SIIG VLB I/O card with a Compact Flash hard drive and 8X CDROM.
As part of the video, I unpack and install 8x 32k cache memory chips to complete the installation of the 256k L2 cache banks.
The we benchmark three different CPUs with and without the 256k cache memory:
Intel 486 DX-33 MHz
Intel 83 MHz P24T Pentium Overdrive for Socket 3
AMD 5x86 P75 (Evergreen) for Socket 3
