Hello. I like game arcades. This is a clip from the retro arcade Retro:G in Akihabara, Tokyo, Japan.
I went to Japan in June 2023, and paid a visit to this retro arcade about a year after the last one. Luckily, my favorite title Time Crisis 2 was still operational (only Player 2 side was powered on).
0:33 I played Gunblade NY at Wonderland in Malacca last year, but the machine condition wasn't very great (no maintenance since exported to Malaysia...?). This place however seems to have been investing a lot of resources into keeping the machines in comfortably-playable conditions. CRT monitors are bright and sharp, and controllers/guns work as designed.
1:00 Zookeeper (puzzle game), which I played here a year ago for the first time in 17-18 years, was not in operation this time. I've been looking for the arcade PCB of the game, but not been successful so far.
1:22 Daytona USA are still somewhat common in South East Asia (Malaysia, Singapore). When I was in the UK last year (2022), I saw Crazy Taxi at multiple arcade pubs. Perhaps it's more popular abroad.
2:39 I vaguely remember that I played one of these OutRuns at a hot spring hotel 温泉旅館 in my home town when I was a kid (early 1990s). Arcade games were ubiquitous back then even in the countryside.
3:10 Although the Time Crisis series eventually won the "my favorite arcade" title, I also played the VirtuaCop series and The House of the Dead series a lot (at an arcade in a bowling alley in Nanao).
