In this video reviews Halo 3 backwards compatibility patch by comparing Halo 3 on Xbox One X vs Xbox 360. The Xbox One X enhanced title utilizes higher texture filtering, has an increased render resolution and a more stable frame rate, which will make this an excellent backward compatibility enhancement for the fans of the series. Halo 3 Xbox One X patch.

A drastic increase in resolution and as well as texture filtering. The original 720p render resolution was bumped up 9 times, and the game is now rendered at 4K. It is fascinating how the game runs with identical assets, but aforementioned improvements at an emulator level allow for a significantly clearer image the on the Xbox One X. The Xbox One X version runs at an almost perfect 30 fps, while the Xbox 360 suffers from pretty drastic frame rate drops as we increase the level of scene complexity.

---------------------------
Akin to an incoming asteroid, Halo 3 backward compatibility caught the xbox community by surprise. Welcome to VertexGaming, and today, we are taking a look at graphical and performance improvements to Halo 3 by the Xbox One X backward compatibility patch.
Let's talk visual changes. As you can see from the footage, when comparing the xbox one x version to that of the xbox 360, two things become very apparent. A drastic increase in resolution and as well as texture filtering. The original 720p render resolution was bumped up 9 times, and the game is now rendered at 4K.
Take a look at this forest scene, it is fascinating how the game runs with identical assets, but aforementioned improvements at an emulator level allow for a significantly clearer image the on the xbox one x, which are very apparent as we zoom in on the image.
The higher level of texture and shadow filtering along with an increase in resolution provide really tangible benefits. In this scene, we see much more detail to distant objects, exemplified by the NPC in the center as well as highly detailed tree branches. Also notice that god rays and alpha smoke are rendered more naturally.
You are probably wondering, how do original assets made for the XBox 360 look so good? See, the game renders to its original render target. the virtual 360 GPU on the Xbox One X recognises the dimensions and scales up the render target and provides us with a high resolution copy of the asset stashed in Xbox One X memory. Those assets are used for the image render and this this is how you get more detail to textures. The proof of that concepts can be seen here. For example, when we look at objects through the the ACOG, the environmental textures are forced to render at a higher target resolution, and the difference becomes less apparent, as seen in this comparison.
The hat can been seen in this relatively complex cene. Texture assets for all objects are much clearer and crisper, which can be appreciated on near and distant objects. Additionally, angled textures look much sharper due to a furced anisotropic filtering enabled in the emulator.
Now let's talk about performance. Halo 3 on the Xbox 360 was highly optimized to run very close to 30 frames per second, it was quite difficult to find a scene where performance dips occur. This scene with a high number on NPCs, lights and shadows, allows us to demonstrate that the Xbox One X version runs at an almost perfect 30 fps, while the Xbox 360 suffers from pretty drastic frame rate drops as we increase the level of scene complexity. Revisiting Halo 3 on the Xbox One X was a pure pleasure, as 99% of the time, it runs at a perfect frame rate with no screen tears, thanks to an always engaged V-Sync.
