I'm a scrub at Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, but I do like Versus (CPU) modes, and the PS2--like the Dreamcast version--has one. (This is the version in Street Fighter Anniversary Collection.)
Predictably playing as Ryu, difficulty 5 was too easy--except against Akuma ;_;--so I up it to 6 (22:36), and run into a few problems.
First, it becomes really apparent that difficulty varies widely depending on who you're fighting, even on the same difficulty setting; for instance, Sean is a pushover (53:06), Hugo's not too tough (1:05:23), Chun-Li puts up a good fight (56:27), and Ryu puts up a really good fight (23:23).
I could work around that by learning which difficulty setting works best for me against each character--I'd probably be okay with Chun and Ryu on 6, most of the rest of the cast on 7, Akuma on 4 or 5--but I also started to notice that I was whiffing an awful lot of special move command inputs. This is undoubtedly because I'm really sloppy with my control movements, but I can't help thinking that the situation is made worse by the two additional frames of input lag this PS2 version has, compared to the PS3 version.
So next I'll have to go play the PS3 version again and see if that helps my input problem.
