#63 Virtua Fighter 4 PS2 \\ 6th kyu Jacky Bryant into VF4 Kumite - VF1 model unlocked!
The thing that surprised me about trying to play Jeet Kune Do kung fu practitioner and race car driver Jacky Bryant in the Kumite mode of Virtua Fighter 4 is that mixing in his big, long-limbed strikes is not quite a straightforward process; his moves will come more readily if you first prime the pump with certain set up motions. I don't really understand it and I didn't do all that well--but at least I limped along far enough to reach 1st dan and unlock his low-poly "VF1" character model. : )
0:00 - start
1:31 - checking his starting (well, 6th kyu; I guess I did a brief session with him at some point earlier : P) costume items and colors
7:39 - into Kumite!
1:14:01 - checking unlocked colors and stuff
1:21:36 - into Kumite, holding the Punch + Kick buttons down to enable the unlocked VF1 character model
1:21:45 - it's so blocky : o
Unlike most of the characters whose models I'd unlocked up to this point, Jacky was actually around in VF1, so this model--I presume--isn't a latter-day retro invention based on more detailed later artwork, but probably actually reflects to at least some extent the conditions and limitations of 1993 3D game design--and it's so startlingly boxy that I had I really hard time concentrating on the fights!
This session left me hoping that Jacky's command inputs would be a little more intuitive in the next version.
Recorded 3/27/20 w/ PS2, OSSC, Framemeister, Elgato HD60, Hori RAPV 2017 w/ Sanwa lever & buttons, Brook Super Converter, Blue Snowball microphone
